The Petzl Nitro 3 is designed for use with marginal protection when climbing ice or rock, or during rescue situations. The 'Ripper' design hugely reduces the impact forces on protection in the event of a severe fall (absorber begins to deploy at 2.5 kN). The Nitro 3 is designed to tear through the stitching of the folded sling at a controlled rate when it deploys, mitigating excessive shock loading through the system.
