Wainwright: The Wainwright Memorial Walk [ISBN: 0 7112 2402 1]

The Wainwright Memorial Walk is the 102 mile route that A Wainwright devised, and walked with three friends, over the Whitsuntide holiday of 1931 and which was first published as Wainwright's Tour of the Lake District.

Based on the sketch map he drew at the time, it has been possible to reconstruct the walk from the maps he drew later for his unique Pictorial Guides and the route has been highlighted on the maps for this book.

This edition follows exactly the same route but has been divided into eleven shorter stages instead of the original six arduous days planned by Wainwright.  The shorter stages may be walked independently if the whole can not be done as one.  The route commences in Windermere and ends in Ambleside and each stage takes in some of the most spectacular traverses in the Lake District.
